Does Your Air Conditioner Have A Clogged Drain?

Good day, Austin! Is your home more humid than usual? Is there a slow leak coming from your ceiling? Maybe theres a water stain that’s never been there before? It sounds like your drain line may be clogged! Air conditioner drain lines commonly become clogged when there is dirt build up on the indoor coil. This is generally caused by running your air conditioner without a filter, or not changing the filter often enough.

Let's Talk Air Conditioner Coils/Evap Coils

Hey there, Austin! This week looks to continue to be nice and warm. I’d call it an Indian summer, but it seems to just be Texas on any given day.  With it remaining this warm this late in the season, we here at Precision Heating & Air Conditioning are still receiving numerous air conditioning repair calls. We have a lot of customers that call in with very vague descriptions of what isn't working like “It’s just not cooling” or “The outside part isn't kicking on”. Well today, we’re going to give you a better idea of what you need fixed.  Let’s talk about that indoor unit, or as the industry likes to call it: the evaporator coil.

What is it?

An evaporator coil is the part of an air conditioning or heat pump system that becomes cold when the unit operates (or warm for a heat pump in winter). It is mounted in (or connected with) the duct work of the home. When the system is on, air flows through the coil and the cold air (or warm air for a heat pump in winter) is distributed throughout the home.

How does it work?

Evaporator coils are particularly good at absorbing heat when air is passed through their system. As air from the room passes over the coil, the coil takes the heat from the air and sends cooler air back out through the system. Humidity is removed from the air by the coil, working with the condenser unit to condense the water in the air. A furnace, central air conditioner, or other air-modifying device passes the household air through the evaporator coil, which absorbs the air’s heat and sends it back into the house as cold air via a series of air ducts.

What causes it to malfunction?

The most common cause of an evaporator coil malfunctioning is either a dirty filter, or a low charge on refrigerant. When a filter becomes dirty, the evaporator coil begins to collect more condensation, which freezes on the coil making it unable to cool the air. When the charge is low on the unit, the same thing happens. However, low charge on a unit is generally caused by a leak which can lead to bigger problems than a frozen evaporator coil.

Both of these things can be caught and prevented with annual maintenance. You should generally have your heating and air conditioning unit maintained twice a year, once in the spring to have the ac unit checked and once in the fall to have the furnace looked at. Is it time for your annual fall check? Call Precision Heating and Air to get your annual maintenance scheduled. We deliver service you can trust 24 hours a day, seven days a week with no additional costs for after-hours work. Stay cool, Austin!

His genius would enable incredible advancements in health care, manufacturing processes, food preservation, art and historical conservation, indoor comfort and much more.

Carrier’s foresight changed the world forever and paved the way for over a century of once-impossible innovations. Yet in addition to being an accomplished inventor, he was also an avid outdoorsman. Carrier recognized the power and beauty of the natural environment. This appreciation of our world and its resources continues to guide Carrier Corporation today. We will never rest on our accomplishments, but instead consistently look for ways to improve our products, our environment and our world. The Infinity® Touch Control puts enhanced comfort and energy savings at your fingertips with intuitive, touchscreen operation and additional features to maximize your indoor comfort experience.

Carrier gives you ultimate command of comfort, performance and energy savings when you include an Infinity® Touch Control, Infinity furnace or fan coil, Infinity heat pump or air conditioner and Carrier® humidifier to create an Infinity system. It’s About Your Comfort

The Carrier® Infinity® Touch Control represents years of design, development and testing with one goal in mind - making you more comfortable. We have taken the lead in creating new technologies that deliver the comfort and efficiency you deserve while staying ahead of industry trends and global initiatives.

The Infinity Touch Control, when combined with a Carrier Infinity furnace or Infinity fan coil and the Infinity heat pump featuring Greenspeed™ intelligence, gives homeowners high-precision comfort. Greenspeed intelligence constantly matches the heating or cooling demands of the home. This translates into reduced energy use and reduced temperature swings throughout the home.

All year long, humidity affects the temperature at which you feel most comfortable. That’s why Carrier
Ideal Humidity System® technology plays such an important role in your comfort. When you combine the Infinity Touch Control, a Carrier humidifier, Infinity variable-speed furnace or fan coil and an Infinity air conditioner or heat pump, ideal Humidity System technology gives you enhanced control over humidity levels for greater comfort even when your system isn’t calling for heating or cooling.† You’ll feel cooler at higher temperatures in the summer and warmer at lower temperatures in the winter.

The Carrier HYBRID HEAT® dual fuel system delivers peace of mind to homeowners concerned about the unpredictable nature of utility costs. This system pairs a gas furnace with an electric heat pump and compatible control to provide comfort, economy and flexibility. Your Carrier HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system will automatically switch between electric and gas heating as needed to keep your home comfortable all winter long while optimizing the efficiencies of each fuel source.

Added Touches

You don’t lead an industry for more than 100 years by accident. Carrier has maintained its position and reputation through diligent, uncompromising attention to detail. The Infinity Touch Control adds flair and functionality beyond touchscreen technology to our most energy-efficient Infinity systems.

You can’t control the weather outside, but you can access the latest, five-day weather forecast for your area. Weather information is targeted according to zip code.*
*When connected to a Wi-Fi network

Transform your Infinity Touch Control into a photo frame by uploading a photo, and then surround it with other photo frames to let it blend in seamlessly into your living space. Awaken the control with just a touch to reveal the control pad.

Hello Again Austin!

I Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and kept cool. This week is looking to be a scorcher with temperatures over 100 degrees until Saturday. When it gets hot like this, air conditioning units have to work harder and problems can arise if annual preventative maintenance is not done.
One of the most common issues we see in the HVAC field is air conditioning units freezing up. The air conditioner continues to kick on and blow air, and you have no idea something is wrong until your house is too hot and your evaporation coil in the air conditioning unit is frozen solid. When this happens, there is no way for our technician to repair or even diagnose the issue until the evaporation coil has thawed.

What causes this inconvenience in your home?

1. Well, there are a couple of different reasons. The most common reasons are refrigerant charge/level and the air flow. When the air conditioner’s refrigerant is improperly charged, or levels are low, the evaporation coil will freeze. This generally happens when there is a leak in the line. This is not something you as a customer can test, but you can give Precision Heating & Air Conditioning a call. Our technicians can get your refrigerant recharged, replenished, and get any leaks sealed.

2. The other reason the evaporation coil may freeze is poor air flow. If the filter is dirty or hasn’t been changed recently, dirt can build up on the evaporation coil causing it to collect condensation and freeze around the coil. Changing your air filters regularly is the easiest, most inexpensive way to prevent your air conditioning unit from freezing up. If your evaporation coils are dirty, the may need cleaned. This is not something you as a customer can do, and will need to call in the professionals here at Precision Heating and Air.

By calling Precision Heating & Air Conditioning, you are guaranteed service you can trust. We can get a technician out to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no extra charge for after-hours work, keeping your home cool at all hours of the day. Stay cool, Austin!

Heat Pump Heating Systems

Because heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, their efficiency is measured with two distinct ratings. While in the cooling mode heat pumps receive a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER number. SEER is like gas mileage. The higher the gas mileage or SEER, the more efficient the automobile or system is. Most new heat pumps rate between 13.0 and 19.0 SEER.

Air conditioning is part of the terminology that we often use - HVAC.

A complete set of equipment should be able to alter air temperature and humidity, circulate and mix air, as well as filter and purify air.
Nevertheless, the equipment can be used to serve any of the functions specified, separately.
It is a subset of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). The ultimate purpose of HVAC, is to provide comfort for our everyday living.
Let's go through some explanation on "H" and "V" part, before going into "AC" section.
